Translation

Spring is finally here. There is still a lot to look forward to. I was listening to Eason’s song Red Rose, when the coldness hit us one last time before the weather finally warming up. A song I would normally consider overtly sentimental. It is catchy and it is a typical example of very vague and literary Chinese lyrics made clearer and more direct in English translation. I don’t know what is lost or gained in translation.

Dreamed a dream that couldn’t be awaken The red colored thread that couldn’t be faded All excitement were gone and fatigue was left And the pain couldn’t bring any difference to us The moment I hugged from your back I was thinking of his (her) face It’s kinda ridiculous to be true But I expect you to understand while I couldn’t Is happiness too oppressive? Overdosed till I’m numb Bloody red, empty pupil It is finally empty, and the ending was found nowhere The not taken one is always taken to your heart The biased one always has nothing to fear Red roses, too vulnerable dreams Grasped in hand, but loosed in fingers Redness could be a red precious mole on your chest But it could also be as inferior as mosquito blood Time could beautify the only touching moment But it also wears off our excitement The moment I hugged from your back I was thinking of his (her) face It’s kinda ridiculous to be true But I expect you to understand while I couldn’t Is happiness too oppressive? Overdosed till I’m numb Burning red, winding heart It is finally frozen, and the ending was found nowhere…
