I have recently been following an online course by professor Arnold Weinstein, called “The Fiction of Relationship”. Why do we read is the question raised before lectures on novels started. The more I experience, the more I understand how hard it is to understand others. Through books and reading, we become others, live others’ life, stand in different environment. At the end, we understand others and the world better.
From me to you, from here to there, is a long and not easy journey. Novels are not meant to educate us, make us become better people. It’s more of an exploration, adventure, a journey. It does not matter where it leads us to and what kind of conclusion we will draw at the end. The importance lies in the fact that we make this move, over there, from ourselves to others.
